Gloucestershire Libraries Parent Portal
Arts Award Discover is now available online to Gloucestershire children up to the age of 11 who enjoy being creative and can demonstrate an interest in the arts. Gloucestershire is one of a small number of counties that is helping to pilot this new version.
Gloucestershire Libraries are working with Trinity College London (Awarding body) and Create Gloucestershire to provide everything that families (or schools) would need to support children to gain this award. Children have to produce responses in four areas:
- Recognition of different art forms (Those they do themselves and others they know about)
- Undertake a creative activity
- Find out something about an artist (in the broad sense)
- Share what they have “discovered”
Most of the activities are available online with libraries providing Make-Aways (free craft activities complete with all materials and instructions) to families. If children complete all four areas they can apply for a Trinity College certificate via their local Library or through the Create Gloucestershire website (https://www.creategloucestershire.co.uk/discover-at-home ). Certificates cost the families £6 but there is currently some funding available if this cost is prohibitive for any child.
Over Half Term, Gloucestershire Libraries will be promoting this venture and providing information leaflets, “Maps”, Log Books and activities on the theme of houses with an online illustration workshop on drawing a cottage, a creative craft workshop on making an unusual teeny tiny house (fantasy style) and Make-Away packs based on houses – for example, a spooky house kit.
